Nic graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001 with a First Class honours degree in Physics with study in continental Europe, including a year studying physics at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain, which enabled him to develop his Spanish to a fluent level. He worked for a brief spell at the British Council, and undertook an oceanographic research placement at the National University of Singapore.

Nic entered the profession in 2002, and joined Jenkins in 2005. He has worked with a wide range of technology, from automotive safety devices to mobile telecommunications, and is involved in all aspects of patent prosecution work.

Nic qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney in 2006 and as a European Patent Attorney in 2007.
