Phil graduated from University College London with a first class Honours Degree in Physics in 1997, and entered the patent profession in that year. He joined Jenkins in 2001, having previously worked for a London based firm of solicitors and a leading Manchester based firm of patent attorneys.

His work concentrates around electronic and electromechanical inventions, with particular emphasis on semiconductor devices, image copying and surveillance systems. He is a frequent visitor to Japan, and has spent some time working there on secondment with a Japanese law firm.
