    About Our Firm

    New Partners

We are pleased to announce that on 1st January 2002, two new trade mark partners, Hazel Buckley and Ian Wilkes, were appointed.

    Hazel Buckley

Hazel qualified as a teacher in 1969 but spent only a year teaching in the UK before marrying and spending much of the next fourteen years accompanying her husband on various residential business assignments to more exotic climes.

Alas, the life of a lady of leisure did not last forever. Returning to live full-time in the UK to accommodate children's schooling, Hazel returned temporarily to teaching in 1984 before deciding to embark on a complete career change in 1987. Working as a secretary and then as an administrator to a Patent and Trade Mark Attorney in a large multi-national computer company provided an introduction to the world of intellectual property.

After moving to a firm of London solicitors in 1990, Hazel worked on a wide range of IP matters but then began to focus more on trade marks. She qualified as a trade mark attorney in 1996 and joined Jenkins in 1997.

    Ian Wilkes

Leaving university with a degree in Politics and Philosophy opened very few doorways for Ian - JS Mill, Karl Marx and Jean Jacques Rousseau had already stolen all of his great ideas! It was, therefore, a moment of epiphany (and some relief) when the position of a Trade Mark Examiner at the UK Trade Mark Office became available in 1987.

Having spent three years finding out how to prevent the registration of trade marks, Ian decided in 1990 to forsake the role of gamekeeper and turned poacher. He joined the practice of a major firm of UK trade mark attorneys, qualified in 1994 and joined Jenkins in 1997.

Ian recently married his long-term partner (Frances) after a 10 year(!) courtship. He says that you can't rush into these things, extension of time requests are normally granted and before marrying, he had to pay for his beloved Harley Davidson motorbike.
